This 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera RS is one of approximately 290 examples built with the M003 package, which further reduced weight with the elimination of all sound-deadening material and also added a welded-in roll cage, racing harnesses, a larger fuel tank, and a master cut-off switch. Finished in Guards Red over black cloth interior, the car is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six that was rebuilt in 2021. Shifting is handled via a replacement five-speed manual transaxle, and features include a seam-welded chassis, a limited-slip differential, an aluminum front trunk lid, a speed-activated rear spoiler, magnesium 17″ Cup wheels, adjustable Bilstein coilovers, and fixed-back Recaro bucket seats. The Carrera RS was reintroduced with the 964 chassis and featured a seam-welded bodyshell as well as an aluminum front trunk lid, rolled fenders, and thinner side and rear windows than those used on the standard Carrera.
Magnesium 17″ Cup wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires that were recently mounted. The Carrera RS features a lowered and stiffened suspension with Bilstein coilovers as well as adjustable front and rear sway bars. Stopping power is provided by an anti-lock system featuring four-piston calipers over cross-drilled rotors at all four corners.
The stripped cockpit features a factory roll cage surrounding fixed-back Recaro bucket seats trimmed in black cloth with multi-point harnesses. Dual fire extinguishers are mounted ahead of the passenger seat, and interior details include roll-up windows, door pull straps, and a heater. The car was delivered from the factory without airbags, air conditioning, carpeting, or sound-deadening material.
The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel frames a central tachometer, a 300-km/h speedometer, a clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The six-digit odometer shows 69k kilometers (~42k miles), approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 3.6-liter M64/03 flat-six was equipped from the factory with a lightened flywheel, a sport-tuned Bosch engine management system, and a cooling fan driven by a single belt. The engine was rebuilt in 2021, at which time the valves and crankshaft were serviced, and the connecting rod bearings, valve guides and seals, piston rings, oil pressure valve, crankcase breather hose, and distributor cap and rotor were replaced. The starter ring gear was replaced, and the oil was changed in 2025.

@fabulous71 you are theoretically correct about california registration. But show and display is not an option if the car is not currently on the list. I attempted to petition for the addition of a car earlier this year, and there is no one to petition to anymore with gov't cost cutting. There is no one in the role, and so there are no additions being made. If someone finds this to be incorrect, I'd appreciate information on how people navigated the process.

True on all the CA points. Then also add that if the car gets smogged in the Bay Area, it will need to go on a dyno in order to make it Bay Area legal, it most likely will need to be tuned with less power. It’s like double California rules. Ugh.

@MS23 Not an expert on this but there are two routes to getting this registered in California. You can bring it into CARB compliancy which would probably be on the expensive side if it's even doable.
You could look to bring it in under the Show and Display rule. You would need to petition to get the car added to the list of Show and Display if it's not already on there. Since there were less than 500 units made of the special lightweight package it could meet the criteria for being added to the list.
But both of these don't sound like immediate solutions so there's your likely answer. Anyone with more knowledge please chime in.

@haaski: Yes this is the car! It's still the same engine as in 2023, when the car was sold trough Bonhams. You can see the invoice from Astara in the pictures. I have no information that the car was converted to 3,8L. It is a matching car and still the original engine. First paint except hood trough stone chips. Car is almost in new condition and I think even better trough the professional revision from the engine with better materials. I can't provide you with a cold start video. I'am away from house for a long weekend. But no worries, the car runs very good with a lot of experience. The reason for selling is that I am more then 2 meters long, so I have to less space in the car. If you have more questions, please ask!

I think the fact that the engine has been rebuilt is a major advantage, given that it dates back to 1992. Over time, an older engine will inevitably develop some leaks as gaskets and seals age. It doesn't leak a drop now. The car drives fantastically and offers a truly engaging driving experience!

Can you confirm the current engine number and gearbox number on the car? Also, do you have documentation showing who performed the 3.8L engine conversion, when it was done, and exactly what was changed? I’d also like to know whether the original engine case is still installed.
