Euro 1993 BMW 850CSi 6-Speed
Presentation
This European-market 1993 BMW 850CSi remained under the care of its original owner until 2026. It is powered by a 5.6-liter V12 linked to a six-speed manual transmission and is finished in Diamond Black Metallic over two-tone gray leather. The car is equipped with fog lights, a limited-slip differential, 17″ Style 21 “throwing star” wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power-adjustable front seats, a cassette stereo, a BMW mobile phone, and cruise control. Acquired by the selling dealer in 2026, this E31 indicates 133k kilometers (~83k miles) and is offered in the Netherlands with manufacturer’s literature, service records, and German registration.
The 850CSi featured revised front and rear valances as well as a lowered ride height compared to other E31 coupes. This example is finished in Diamond Black Metallic (181) and features pop-up headlights, fog lights, and black bodyside trim. The right quarter panel, front bumper cover, trunk lid, and hood have received paintwork, and scratches and blemishes are noted. Paint correction has been performed.
The forged-aluminum 17″ BMW Style 21 wheels wear directional “throwing star” covers and have been refinished, and they are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires that were mounted in 2021. Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs with ABS. The car is equipped with an Active Rear-Axle Kinematics (AHK) rear-wheel steering system, and the 850CSi features a sport-tuned suspension and revised steering ratios in comparison to other E31 models.
The cabin features heated power-adjustable front seats trimmed in two-tone gray leather, along with matching door panels and carpets. An obsolete mobile phone remains housed on the center console, and equipment includes an onboard computer, dual-zone automatic climate control, a cassette stereo, and a power-adjustable steering column. The sunroof fabric is loose, the cassette stereo code is missing, and the ashtray does not open as designed. An aftermarket immobilizer is said to be installed.
The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 300-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 133k kilometers (~83k miles).
The 5.6-liter S70B56 V12 was factory rated at 372 horsepower and 402 lb-ft of torque. The spark plugs and air filters were replaced in 2021, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

@Cherche-pepites Thank you for your questions!
The period Siemens car phone is not operational. It should be possible to remove it, but I have not dismantled the installation, so I cannot guarantee that there are no mounting holes or marks underneath.
The fold-down unit on the left side of the trunk is indeed part of the Siemens telephone system.
The device in the glove compartment is an original BMW removable rechargeable flashlight. To my knowledge, it is no longer working.
Regarding the radio, BMW kindly provided me with the code today. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to unlock it, so I cannot confirm that the radio is operational.
Hope this helps!

Could the obsolete phone be removed from the cabin without leaving any holes or other damage in the center console? Is the fold-down device in the left-hand side of the trunk part of the phone unit? What is the light and/or its function in the left-hand side of the glove compartment? Have you been able to obtain the radio code from BMW?

@RobertAston Thank you for the kind words!
I just looked into this with the help of AI, and according to Transport Canada, vehicles over 15 years old are generally exempt from the usual Canadian vehicle import requirements.
Since this 850CSi is from 1993, it appears that importing it into Canada in its current European specification should be possible.
Of course, I would recommend double-checking this with Transport Canada and your local provincial authorities, as I can’t personally guarantee the import or registration requirements.
Hope this helps!

I grew up desiring these cars. Very nice example. Love the wheels.

33 yrs old and still brings it. Because don't bring a knife to a gunfight and good luck with the sale.

Beautiful example of this CSi. I know Canada Where I live) has (almost) similar restrictions as California. Any idea if this car in it's current configuration would be allowed in Canada?
Oct 28, 2026 · 08:57
The 850CSi is the one to have from the E31 range — only around 1,510 built worldwide between 1992 and 1996, with the M70-derived S70B56 bored and stroked to 5.6 liters, hotter cams, and a proper Getrag 420G six-speed. The AHK rear-axle steering was part of the package and is often the first thing to go quiet on these, so it's good to see the diagnostic effort documented here. Diamond Black over the two-tone white/grey leather is a combination you rarely see surviving in this condition, and the Throwing Star 21s are correct for the car rather than later fitments. Mileage is honest for a V12 that was clearly used as intended.
A genuinely well-presented example, best of luck with the sale.

I've received a couple of private messages asking about the AHK (Active Rear-Axle Kinematics) system, so I thought I'd address this here as well.
The system is fully functional, with no warning lights.
We actually put together a period-correct BMW diagnostic computer running the original 1990s software, allowing us to activate and demonstrate the AHK system without driving the car.
I've included the demonstration video again below for easy reference.

And another small update: Prior to the auction, the car received a professional detailing treatment, including paint correction and a ceramic coating.
The finish looks fantastic, and the ceramic coating should help protect the paint for years to come!

A quick update on the original BMW Bavaria radio: I removed it and managed to retrieve the model and serial numbers. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to obtain the security code through the usual online services.
I've now contacted BMW Netherlands to see if they can provide the original code. Hopefully, we can get the radio unlocked soon!

A little additional background on the car’s ownership history:
The 850CSi was originally purchased by its first owner through his GmbH (German limited company). In 2001, the car was transferred from the company into his personal name.
The original German registration documents confirm that the company and private registrations are connected to the same individual and address. So, although there are two registrations, the car effectively remained with the same owner throughout this period.
For privacy reasons, I haven’t uploaded these documents publicly, but I’m happy to share the relevant documentation privately with genuinely interested bidders.

The Siemens phone was ordered with the car when new, as shown on a copy of the original purchase invoice included in the gallery. The phone did not power on when I tried it. I haven’t investigated the cause yet, but I’ll check whether the power supply is connected. Regardless, compatibility with today’s mobile networks would be an issue.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the auction! My name is Matthijs, and I am the owner of MXM Motors, based in the Netherlands. Thank you for taking the time to look at our 1993 BMW 850CSi! I have personally driven the car and spent quite some time getting to know it, documenting its history, and preparing it for this auction. I'll be available throughout the week to answer any questions or provide additional information and photographs. A few additional details and a correction regarding the paintwork:
First, a small correction to the listing description: the previously refinished rear quarter panel is on the driver's side (left), not the passenger's side (right). For clarity, here is an overview of the paintwork:
Hood: Repainted at some point in the past. The exact reason is unknown, although stone-chip damage is a possible explanation. Front bumper: A localized paint repair was carried out to address a scratch. Passenger's side (right): Retains its original factory paint. Driver's side (left): The rear quarter panel has been repainted, with paint blended into the adjacent door. The front fender retains its original factory paint. Trunk lid: Retains its original paint, apart from a small localized repair along the lower edge where the clear coat had started to deteriorate. Paint thickness measurements are included in the photo gallery for reference. International shipping:
At MXM Motors, we have experience with international vehicle transportation, including shipments to the United States, Asia, and the Middle East. For this auction, we can assist buyers through Marlog Car Handling, an established international vehicle logistics company based in the Netherlands. Marlog can arrange door-to-door transportation worldwide, including collecting the vehicle directly from our premises, arranging ocean freight, coordinating customs formalities, and organizing delivery to the buyer's destination. All shipping arrangements and associated costs are the responsibility of the buyer. For anyone interested in a shipping quotation, I can provide direct contact details for our representative at Marlog, who is available by email or WhatsApp. Simply use the Contact Seller function, and I'll be happy to put you in touch. The car is also accompanied by extensive historical documentation, including its original German registration documents, BMW service booklet, historical inspection reports, and a detailed DEKRA appraisal. I look forward to answering your questions throughout the auction! Thank you, and happy bidding! Matthijs
